A useful setting to change is the Screen Timeout. Just click MENU -> SETTINGS -> DISPLAY and you’ll see Screen Timeout with the current duration listed underneath. Click it, and choose Never Turn Off (or as high as your device will allow). This way your device will stay on and the screen won’t go into powersave mode while you are using FBAScout. Change the timeout duration back to your preferred setting after using FBAScout.

FBAScout has a free trial of 250 scans. After the trial, FBAScout needs to be registered. Click here to sign up. If you have any trouble signing up, please contact us at info@fbapower.com.

FBAScout uses wireless data (unless you are only using it on Wi-Fi). It is recommended that you have an unlimited data plan on your device. AT&T users will not come close to their limits, even with a 2 GB cap. Ultimately, you are responsible for the data usage and charges on your wireless account. If you are unsure about your data plan, please contact your wireless service provider.

To download the FBAScout app, search for ‘FBAScout’ in the Android Marketplace.

To download using QR codes (the fancy black and white checkerboard thing), you need the ZXing Barcode Scanner app from the Android Marketplace. You can find it by going to the Android Marketplace on your device and searching for ‘ZXing barcode scanner’.

The icon looks like this:

Download and install it. Then open the Barcode Scanner app and hold your camera up to the code. When it registers, press Open Browser. Pretty easy!

If you want to use a Bluetooth scanner with FBAScout, you will need to download and install the SerialMagic Gears app on your device. An Android 2.1+ device is required to use a Bluetooth scanner. Details here.
